Saturday, December 20th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Vegas Golden Knights at Calgary Flames
Suddenly, the young Calgary Flames are winning hockey games, which is always a good thing…unless you’re gunning for more lottery balls in the Draft Lottery Machine. The visiting Golden Knights haven’t necessarily blown the barn doors off any of their opposition so far this season, but Vegas have been at or near the top of the Pacific Division seemingly from day one.
Sunday, December 21st – 1:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings
The first day of Winter (10:03 am EST) features this Eastern Conference matinee in the Motor City between the host Red Wings and the Washington Capitals. Detroit hasn’t made the playoffs in a decade and is looking to end that Sabre-like streak. The Capitals were the top team in the East last season and are looking strong again this time around.
Monday, December 22nd – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
St. Louis Blues at Tampa Bay Lightning
It’s been a season to forget so far for the Blues, who recently lost forward Dylan Holloway for six weeks after an injury suffered in practice. Yet St. Louis remains just a short win streak away from making the playoff cut in the Western Conference, because with the exception of a few Battleship teams (Colorado…Dallas…Minnesota?), everyone else is pretty much stuck in traffic. They visit a Tampa team that has certainly been afflicted by its own key injuries. The Lightning are involved in the even bigger playoff hopeful traffic jam known as the Eastern Conference. For a non-Conference game just before Christmas, the two points up for grabs tonight are important.
Tuesday, December 23rd – 4:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs
The final day and evening of NHL action before the Christmas Break features the surprising Penguins in Toronto to tangle with the resurgent Maple Leafs. An afternoon start for this one, as Toronto is back in the mix for first place in the contentious Atlantic Division. Pittsburgh have been one of the pleasant surprises so far in the 2025-26 regular season, and last time in Toronto (Monday, November 3rd) lost 4-3 to the home team. They’ve also developed a nasty habit as of late of being unable to hold multiple-goal leads in the third period. The Penguins recently made a move by trading goaltender Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers, picking up netminder Stuart Skinner in the exchange.
Wednesday, December 24th – NO GAMES NHL TONIGHT
The National Hockey League goes quiet for a few days, as teams and their families enjoy the Christmas Break.
Thursday, December 25th – NO NHL GAMES TONIGHT
Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays, from the staff of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio Channel 91.
Friday, December 26th – NO NHL GAMES TONIGHT
The NHL roars back from the Christmas Break tomorrow with 13 games to choose from. Until then, keep it here on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio Channel 91 for details about the play-by-play of the 2026 World Juniors, being held this year in Minnesota.
Saturday, December 27th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Edmonton Oilers at Calgary Flames
The Battle of Alberta rarely disappoints, and it features two teams seemingly headed in opposite directions. Most observers expected the Oilers to challenge for the top spot in the Pacific Division, but they got off to another one of their by now patented slow starts, which in part facilitated a major trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Edmonton received much-needed reinforcements recently with the return of impact forwards Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Sunday, December 28th – 8:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Philadelphia Flyers at Seattle Kraken
The surprising Flyers take their act on the road to Seattle this evening, facing a Kraken team that appeared to be ready for a playoff push early on in this season, though they’ve cooled off somewhat since then. During their brief history, Seattle has only qualified for the postseason once (during their second year in the league), and they’ll be hard-pressed to do so again in the tightly contested Western Conference. While the team defence is just above the middle of the pack, their offence is lost at sea. The Kraken cannot score enough to earn the points they need to remain competitive in the Western playoff race.
Monday, December 29th – 7:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets
The Oilers continue their road trip with a visit to Winnipeg. The Jets soared high last season, leading the league in points, before barely surviving a first-round matchup with the St. Louis Blues. That Game Seven thrilling OT win was the high-water mark for the 2025-25 Jets. This time around, they’ve been struggling to keep their heads above water. The loss of Hart Trophy-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck didn’t help things, but he’s back between the pipes earlier than expected. Trouble is, Connor didn’t win the Art Ross as well last year, as Winnipeg remains middle-of-the-pack in goal scored. The silver lining on the Jets’ emblem is that they’re still in the playoff hunt, due to the tight standings in the Western Conference. And they do have the players that can suddenly turn on the engines and begin to light the red light.
Tuesday, December 30th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
New Jersey Devils at Toronto Maple Leafs
Nearly every team can point to injuries to key players as a significant factor in their not performing up to the level expected in early October. The Devils can do that doubly so, but that doesn’t gain them any sympathy points in the Eastern Conference standings. Are they a playoff team this season? A resounding yes to that question a mere 10 weeks ago. Now? It’s going to be tough. The same question can be asked of the underachieving Maple Leafs, who have hovered just above the .500 mark for most of the season so far.
Wednesday, December 31st – 3:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM91
Nashville Predators at Vegas Golden Knights
The final episode of Stranger Things airs this evening, which may very well explain what’s been happening with the Nashville Predators over the past two seasons. They are certainly living in the Upside Down, as much was made of the Preds’ acquisition during the summer of 2024. Here we are a season-and-a-half later, and the only thing keeping Nashville in the Western Conference playoff race is the general sameness in the Western Conference. Is anybody really (mathematically) out of the race as we stand here on the last day of 2025? The same can be asked about the Eastern Conference.
Thursday, January 1st – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins
Happy New Year from the staff of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio Channel 91. 2026 starts off with eight games for your enjoyment, including the Penguins at home to Detroit. Most did not expect the aging/rebuilding/retooling/whatever they’re doing Penguins to be anywhere close to an Eastern playoff spot come New Year’s Day. Yet here we are. The future Hall-of-Fame veterans have produced (Crosby, Malkin and Letang), the team defence has been better, heck, even the goaltending has improved. Pittsburgh recently made a major trade with the Edmonton Oilers, and it spoke more about the future of the Penguins than the playoff race. Cap Space is King.
Friday, January 2nd – 8:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
New York Rangers at Florida Panthers
What a great way to start the first weekend of 2026! The Winter Classic 2026 Edition! The 17th Winter Classic features the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers, outside under the stars in South Florida. Unthinkable even ten years ago, the ice-making (and ice-maintaining) technology has improved considerably since then. And we all know New York appears to prefer playing away from home. As for the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions, by the time you read this, they may have impact forward Matthew Tkachuk back from long-term injury. That will go a long way in determining whether the Cats come back. The Rangers? Also part of that glorious mess in the Eastern Conference. So, the two points earned outside tonight are of utmost importance. It’s the first-ever outdoor game for the Panthers, and the sixth for the Rangers. The game is being held at LoanDepot Park in Miami, home of the MLB Miami Marlins. This is the first outdoor NHL game to be held in the Sunshine State. (The Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins meet up outside on the frozen tundra of Raymond James Stadium on February 1st).
