The Sabres head to Edmonton and more NHL Games of the Week

Connor McDavid
EDMONTON, CANADA - OCTOBER 18: Connor McDavid #97 of the Edmonton Oilers warms up prior to the game against the Buffalo Sabres on October 18, 2022 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Saturday, December 6th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs

This classic matchup comes at an interesting time in both teams’ schedules. The Maple Leafs have looked flat for the most part, but have recently shown signs of improving their overall play. There is plenty of time remaining to move up the standings. The young Canadiens got off to a rip-roaring start, but have cooled off somewhat in recent days. Two weeks ago, the Habs dominated the visiting Leafs 5-2. The compressed manner in which the Eastern Conference is these days, nobody can assume they have a playoff spot booked for this April. Thus, the two points available tonight are essential, even in early December.

Sunday, December 7th – 1:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Colorado Avalanche at Philadelphia Flyers

Without a question, the best team in the NHL since the 2025-26 season began, the Avalanche visit a young Flyers’ team that has done well with a new coach and a couple of players looking to prove they are impact NHLers. Colorado will make the playoffs this April; the only question is whether they finish first in their division (Conference and League), as the Dallas Stars are the only team keeping pace with them so far. Philadelphia finds itself ensconced in the traffic jam that is the Eastern Conference playoff scramble.

Monday, December 8th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Detroit Red Wings at Vancouver Canucks

It’s been a good first part of the 2025-26 season for the Red Wings, who haven’t qualified for the postseason in almost a decade. Trouble is, that’s not good enough to separate from the pack in the congested East. Detroit visits a Canucks’ team that has had to contend with a myriad of injuries, though they are staying close in the similarly jam-packed Western Conference playoff scrum.

Tuesday, December 9th – 9:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Buffalo Sabres at Edmonton Oilers

Which Buffalo Sabres team will show up tonight? Which Edmonton Oilers team will show up tonight?  Find out, as of 9 pm Eastern (7 pm Mountain) tonight. This game could end 7-1, or 7-6, or 2-1. For either team! Buffalo looked to be once again out of the playoff scramble early on, but the less-than-stellar play of most of the teams in front of them in the Eastern standings has kept the Crossed Swords alive. The Oilers once again went through their patented slow start to the season, have once again heard the usual (loud) whispers about their goaltending and defence, but have also gotten back key forwards Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins from injury.

Wednesday, December 10th – 7:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
New York Rangers at Chicago Blackhawks

The young, exciting Chicago Blackhawks have every intention of making the playoffs this season. The New York Rangers? Maybe, if only because practically everybody in the Eastern Conference is still in the race.  It’s well known that New York has had problems winning at home this season, but it has enjoyed considerably more success on the road.

Thursday, December 11th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Montreal Canadiens at Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins have been one of the pleasant surprises in the NHL so far this season, as most didn’t expect them to be hanging around a playoff spot a few weeks before Christmas. Are they deep enough to still be in the middle of the Eastern Conference race four months from now? They welcome in a Habs’ team that they very well may be battling with for one of the two Eastern wildcard spots.

Friday, December 12th – 9:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Seattle Kraken at Utah Mammoth

The two newest NHL franchises (in their respective cities) face off on this Friday night, with both teams looking to add to their playoff war chest. While the Kraken still need to acquire/develop a real offensive game-breaker, their defence is good, and they’re getting solid goaltending. The Mammoth can score more than the Kraken, but isn’t as adept at keeping the puck out of their net. The two points up for grabs tonight may help decide a Western Conference playoff spot in April.
