Saturday, May 2nd – 2:10 pm Eastern
Toronto Blue Jays at Minnesota Twins
It’s good to have young pitching sensation Trey Yesavage back in the rotation, and hopefully by the time you read this, he’s still there. After a stellar debut in the postseason this past autumn, young Trey fought through some injury issues to begin the 2026 campaign, and looked really good in his season debut against the Red Sox on April 28th. This afternoon, the Jays visit the Twins, meaning tons of Canadian baseball fans will cross the border to cheer on the team. Minnesota have been under .500 for most of the season so far, but the AL Central has not been a heavyweight division to this point, so the Twins just have to stay close. Very much like the Blue Jays in the AL East.
Sunday, May 3rd – 1:35 pm Eastern
Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox
The Bosox recently fired most of their coaching staff, and the surprised team responded with a number of wins before dropping 2-of-3 in Toronto. Is Boston still in the race in the Eastern Division? Yes, because it’s still “early”, and nobody is running away with the division. But ya gotta stay close. We’ll be saying that a lot this month.
Monday, May 4th – 6:40 pm Eastern
Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays
The Blue Jays take their act to Tampa, where the Rays are back in their ballpark after playing in their spring training home for a while (due to storm damage). Maybe the worst ballpark in the majors (I’ve seen a game there…made Montreal’s Olympic Stadium almost look cozy), the Rays don’t care. They’re home! And so far after a month, Tampa are the closest team to the mighty Yankees in the American League East. This is a big series early on, as both teams want to move up the division’s ranks.
Tuesday, May 5th – 9:45 pm Eastern
San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants
These two West Coast rivals always seem to be chasing their shared nemesis, the Los Angeles Dodgers. And here we are in early May, and they’re doing it again. Well, the Padres are. They have stayed in lockstep with the hated Dodgers, while the Giants have struggled somewhat out of the gate. Again, a big series early on, as it’s a division battle.
Wednesday, May 6th – 7:05 pm Eastern
Texas Rangers at New York Yankees
Six weeks in, the Yankees have sat on top of the American League East standings for most of that time, with only the Rays providing any real competition so far. The Yanks tonight face the Rangers, a team that sits just off the pace in the less-than-impressive AL West Division. Speaking of which…
Thursday, May 7th – 6:40 pm Eastern
Athletics at Philadelphia Phillies
The homeless baseball team (well, kinda…for now) take on the grossly underachieving Phillies, who recently fired their Sarnia, Ontario-born manager, so we’re not all that happy about that up here in the Great White North. But Philly was way down in the NL East basement with the hapless Mets, so you knew something drastic was going to happen. New York Yankees’ legend Don Mattingly takes over the manager’s position for now. As for the A’s, they’ve been at or near the top of the AL West Division standings for most of the season so far, but it’s a precarious perch. Most of the teams in the division are under .500, so the Athletics and Seattle Mariners have been the rule rather than the exception with less-than-impressive win/loss records.
Friday, May 8th – 7:07 pm Eastern
Los Angeles Angels at Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are back home to face the Angels, who are trailing a number of teams in the AL West. Future Baseball Hall of Famer Mike Trout got off to a hot start, which helped, but the Angels have been a disappointment for years now.
