Grateful Dead Channel (Ch. 23) celebrates the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia during “The Days Between,” August 1–9, marking the time between Jerry’s birth and his passing.
These two Atlantic Division foes meet up in Boston, and many expect them to meet up again come playoff time just over five months from now. Boston recently lost 4-0 to the previously winless Nashville Predators, while the Maple Leafs fell 6-2 in Columbus to the Blue Jackets.
There have been rumours about a possible head coaching change in the Motor City if the fortunes of the Red Wings don’t improve anytime soon. That switch last year did wonders for the Oilers, who stumbled out of the starting gate. This time around, it took Edmonton until their fourth game of the season to record their first win.
Took a while for the Canucks to pick up their first win of the season, and tonight they play host to a Canes team that took a while just to get their regular season schedule underway. Both teams are expected to qualify for the post-season this spring, but where they finish in the standings will be determined.
The Kings are returning from a lengthy road trip, and this game tonight being just up the road in San Jose means they got some much-welcomed rest at home beforehand. L.A. was porous defensively during their Eastern sojourn and looks to tighten things up in that department. They face a rebuilding Sharks team that is off to a slow start to their season. San Jose is the last NHL team this season to record a W.
Talk about hot! The Jets rattled off wins in their first six games, including a 6-0 thrashing of the Edmonton Oilers. They are in Detroit this evening for a clash with a Red Wings team that has yet to show they’ve taken a step forward this season. There are already rumours of a head coaching change in the win in Motown. Did we already mention that? Get used to hearing those whispers unless Detroit can turn things around.
Hallowe’en Night features this matchup between two rebuilding teams that could have been described as scary a year or two ago, but both squads have since shown some signs of improvement. The playoffs are still a ways off in the distance, but the young guns on both rosters (supplemented by battle-tested veterans) will take points away from better teams this season. Tread carefully on this darkest of nights.
A new month begins with a half-dozen games to choose from, including this possible preview of the Stanley Cup Final, live from Tampere, Finland. This is the first of two games in the 2024 NHL Global Series presented by Fastenal. The Panthers are the defending Stanley Cup champions after an impressive run this past spring. They face a Stars team that many expect to represent the Western Conference in the Cup Final next spring. These two teams meet up again tomorrow in Tampere.
