Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox
The red-hot Red Sox recently ran off a franchise-tying 15-game winning streak, which has catapulted them back into the American League East pennant race, and certainly has Boston sitting comfortably in an AL wildcard spot. The complete opposite is happening for the hometown Blue Jays, who are fading fast even in the overall mediocre race this season for one of those two American League wildcard invites. Toronto is most likely going to be a seller at the fast-approaching MLB Trade Deadline. The Jays sit dead last in the AL East. November seems so long ago.

Athletics at Minnesota Twins
Two under .500 teams meet up in the Twin Cities on this Sunday afternoon. Minnesota is sitting within spitting distance of one of those two American League wildcard spots, so a series win against the visiting A’s from Sacramento would go a long way to making a wildcard spot happen.

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox
Yes, Virginia, the Chisox are still battling for first in the AL Central. After a number of years as the designated dumpster fire in all of big league baseball, Chicago has put together an impressive season, with only the Cleveland Guardians providing any real opposition in that division. The visiting Yankees have been sitting in second place in the AL East for seemingly weeks, trailing the Tampa Bay Rays. But look out, here come the red-hot Red Sox, so New York cannot take that position for granted.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels
The American League West is so bad (how bad is it?) that the Houston Astros are closer to first place in that division than to a wildcard. And the ‘Stros are only playing .481 as of the time of writing this! The AL West is this season’s MLB dumpster fire. A team will most likely win the group by barely being over .500. In any division, the Angels are their own special kind of mess. They’re struggling to get to the .400 mark, which would have them sitting in last place in every division save the NL West…only because the Colorado Rockies are slightly worse.
Wednesday, July 29th – 1:05 pm Eastern
Toronto Blue Jays at Washington Nationals
It’s a long way from late June 1997, when the Blue Jays first met the visiting Montreal Expos in a regular-season game (Montreal took 2 of the three games in that first-ever series). The Expos left Quebec for D.C. following the 2004 season, and have won a World Series in their new threads. The Jays are currently flailing, and can’t get their offence in gear. That most likely means they’re sellers at the upcoming MLB Trade Deadline. The Nats are doing better than Toronto, fighting to remain above .500, and are in the midst of the National League wildcard race.
Thursday, July 30th – 10:10 pm Eastern
Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Dodgers
Talk about a Thursday Night Mismatch; the powerhouse Dodgers are leading the majors in winning percentage, while the Mariners are hovering around .500. But that’s good enough in (to borrow a term from Connor McDavid), the Pillow Fight Division, the American League West. The Mariners are closer to first place than they are to a wildcard spot. It’s been that kind of year out West.
Friday, July 31st – 7:07 pm Eastern
St. Louis Cardinals at Toronto Blue Jays
It’s the Battle of the Birds, and the only thing going for it might be the fancy Friday night City uniforms the Jays don for the occasion. Toronto is sinking fast, and is going to need some divine intervention to get back into the AL East pennant race…or hope that the recently installed statue of Joe Carter hitting the 1993 World Series-winning home run can come to life and provide some offensive spark. The Cards? They are in the midst of the National League wildcard struggle, another team barely above the break-even point who still have a chance to claim a post-season spot. There are two months remaining in the 2026 MLB regular season. Games such as this evening’s offering still count.
