Minnesota at Edmonton is a marquee match and one of our NHL Games of the Week

Winter Olympic Break
SAINT PAUL, MN - DECEMBER 20: Ty Emberson #49, Adam Henrique #19 and Riley Stillman #61 of the Edmonton Oilers battle for the puck with Danila Yurov #22 and Yakov Trenin #13 of the Minnesota Wild during the game at Grand Casino Arena on December 20, 2025 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Saturday, January 31st – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 167
Minnesota Wild at Edmonton Oilers

The final Saturday of NHL action before the Winter Olympic break. This game is a marquee matchup, featuring Quinn Hughes vs. Connor McDavid. Okay, this matchup is a whole lot more than just a meeting of two NHL superstars, but both players are literally worth the price of admission. The Wild are in a season-long struggle with the Dallas Stars for second place in the Central Division, as it appears nobody will catch the high-flying Colorado Avalanche…even after they’ve flown a little lower in the past month.  The Oilers are in a season-long battle for top spot in the Pacific Division, keeping close to the Vegas Golden Knights, with the surprising Anaheim Ducks lurking just off the coast.

Sunday, February 1st – TBD – SiriusXM 91
Boston Bruins at Tampa Bay Lightning

The Bruins and Lightning take to the great outdoors on this Sunday for the second NHL outdoor game this season…both in the Sunshine State!

Keep your eye on NHL.com, and your ears on SiriusXM, in order to know the official starting time. The league wants to maximize the ice conditions. It’s an important game in the very tight Atlantic Division, as the Bruins surprisingly have designs on making the playoffs this year. It appears the Lightning will finish first in the group, but the Red Wings and Sabres probably would like to have something to say about that.

Monday, February 2nd – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins

Wait a minute! It was supposed to be the Senators who were seemingly steaming towards a playoff spot this season, after making the cut last season. But it hasn’t worked out that way. Will heads roll? Instead, it’s the Penguins who look to be heading towards the post-season, after not making the cut three years in a row. It’s truly been a crazy campaign so far. There’s still time for Ottawa to right their ship and sail into April with a real shot at a playoff invite, but it’s gonna be tough. Pittsburgh just has to stay the course, and they’ll be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Penguins haven’t won a playoff round since 2018.

Tuesday, February 3rd – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Seattle Kraken at Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks have run hot and cold, but thankfully more hot than cold, which is why they have the 2026 postseason in their sights. So do the Kraken, and so do the Kings, and the Sharks. And they all reside in the Pacific Division. And last time we checked, the maximum number of teams that can represent any given division in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is five. And most people have the Golden Knights and Oilers pencilled in for post-season action. So, this is a long-winded way of saying that tonight’s game is crucial for both these clubs.

Wednesday, February 4th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Montreal Canadiens at Winnipeg Jets

There’s always a ton of Habs fans in the arena in Winnipeg when Les Canadiens come to town. While Montreal appears to be headed back to the post-season (though it could be as a wildcard, as the Atlantic Division is topsy-turvy crazy right now), the Jets have arguably been the biggest disappointment in the league this season. After leading the league in points in 2024-25, Winnipeg is fighting for its playoff lives, and at the moment, it doesn’t look good. The Canadiens’ goaltending needs to be better, and obviously, the team agreed, as they recently fired their goaltending coach.

Thursday, February 5th – 7:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Florida Panthers at Tampa Bay Lightning

On the final night of NHL action before the Winter Olympic break, it’s the Battle of the Sunshine State, as the Lightning welcome in the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Tampa is headed to the 2026 postseason, but can the same be said about the defending champs?

Again, two or three key points are up for grabs before most of the players head to the beach.

Friday, February 6th – NO NHL GAMES TODAY

The National Hockey League takes a three-week break for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Milan, Italy, and at various other sites throughout the country.  Many NHL stars will participate in the Ice Hockey competition, representing their respective countries. The 2025-26 NHL regular season resumes action on Wednesday, February 25th.  Keep your ears on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio (Channel 91) for daily updates on the Winter Olympic hockey action, and any and all news coming from the National Hockey League.
