Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning
The NHL returns tonight from its Winter Olympic hiatus with 8 games on tap, including the Leafs and Bolts in Florida. The Lightning have been the top team in the rollicking Atlantic Division for most of the season, sitting six points up on Montreal and Detroit, and tonight face a visiting Toronto team that is surprisingly sitting six points back of the playoff spot with only a quarter of the campaign to go. It’s pretty much a must-win game for the Maple Leafs, or they’ll be in danger of falling further behind. Toronto captain Auston Matthews was also the team captain for the U.S. men’s Olympic team that beat Canada 2-1 to win the Gold Medal last week.

Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings
Artemi Panarin is still producing points at an impressive level, and the Kings need that offensive shot-in-the-arm. But with the loss of forward Kevin Fiala during the recently concluded Winter Olympic Games, how will the addition and subtraction affect the Kings’ push to grab a playoff spot? The Oilers also reside in the underachieving Pacific Division, and still have designs on first place in the group. Yet, goaltending and defence issues still dog this team. Will they be active by the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline?

Vegas Golden Knights at Washington Capitals
Will the Golden Knights hold on to first place in the Pacific Division? Does that even matter, as the teams are so tightly bunched up in that bracket? Will the Capitals make a successful run for an Eastern Conference playoff spot after qualifying with apparent ease last season? Overture…curtains, lights…
