St. Louis Blues at Colorado Avalanche

With the 2022-23 NHL regular season now well past the halfway mark, if you have any designs on qualifying for the post-season, now’s the time to get your act in gear. Both the Blues and Avalanche had underwhelming first halves, though Colorado can rightfully point to injuries to key players as a mitigating factor on their poor play. A huge two points up for grabs on this last Saturday in January.

Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs

Late afternoon Sunday hockey from Toronto, as the Maple Leafs tangle with Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. It appears the Leafs will finish either second or third in the Atlantic Division. As for the Caps, they are in a spirited battle for either an Eastern Conference wildcard spot or the opportunity to move up in the tightly packed Metropolitan Division.

St. Louis Blues at Winnipeg Jets

The Blues continue their road trip with a visit to the high-flying Jets, who are locked in a tense battle for first place in the tough Central Division. As impressive as Winnipeg has been to this point, they cannot afford to take St. Louis lightly, as fully illustrated by a surprising loss recently to the rebuilding Montreal Canadiens.

Tuesday, January 31st – 7 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens

While Les Canadiens are in rebuilding mode, what is going on with the Ottawa Senators? The team that “won the summer” have not done a lot of winning when it actually matters. Montreal are hobbled by the loss of a number of their better players, including young sniper Cole Caufield, who has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season in order to undergo right shoulder surgery.

Wednesday, February 1st – 7:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs

They are practically unbeatable on home ice and not all that shabby either away from Beantown. Tonight, the Bruins clash with a Maple Leafs team that has enjoyed an impressive regular season up to this date but are acutely aware that they will ultimately be judged by what they do in the playoffs. This could be a preview of a second-round playoff matchup, though the Tampa Bay Lightning may have something to say about that.
