Grateful Dead Channel (Ch. 23) celebrates the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia during “The Days Between,” August 1–9, marking the time between Jerry’s birth and his passing.
Forget the (awesome) 1994 Stanley Cup Final…this Saturday afternoon matchup is all about today and the wildcard pursuit both teams are currently involved in. Both the Rangers and Canucks were expected to be playoff teams this season, so it’s a bit of a surprise that they’re both fighting for their playoff lives.
The Kings don’t seem to lose at home. Thus, a second-place finish in the Pacific Division would set them up nicely for a first-round rematch with the Edmonton Oilers. The Bruins bid farewell to a number of longtime Boston stalwarts but still find themselves involved in the Eastern wildcard race.
Both squads are hoping for a strong finish in order to qualify for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Red Wings haven’t been invited to the spring dance since 2016 and recently went into an ill-timed nosedive. But there’s still time to pull out of it and make a playoff run. Same thing for Utah, who are looking to participate in the post-season during their first season as not being Coyotes. Mammoth?
It’s the battle between the two W’s, who are leading the league in W’s. And the Ovie chase to 894. What’s not to like on this Tuesday evening? This matchup would make for a great Stanley Cup Final, but there’s a long way to go before that is possible. These teams would like to lock up home ice advantage in their respective Conferences.
This rematch of the 2024 Western Conference Final could very well be a preview of the upcoming 2025 Western Conference Final. Edmonton has played better as of late, seemingly getting ready for another playoff run. The Dallas Stars added sniper Mikko Rantanen at the recent NHL Trade Deadline, and they’re also poised to go on a lengthy spring run.

Toronto Maple Leafs at San Jose Sharks
Earlier this month (March 3rd), the last place Sharks came to Toronto, and emerged with a 3-2 shootout win. Now with March winding down, the Maple Leafs look to return the favour. Sniper Auston Matthews seems to have found his goal scoring groove again, and netminder Joseph Woll has looked good in his most recent games.
Two teams in a desperate battle for a wildcard spot in their respective Conferences, so consider this a play-in game, as the sand runs out of the 2025-25 regular season hourglass. The Blue Jackets are in the midst of a real battle for the final Eastern Conference wildcard spot, while the Canucks are in competition with Calgary, St. Louis and Utah for one of the two Western wildcard invites.
