Anton Yelchin — an actor who stole the screen in both indies and blockbusters — died Sunday in a freak accident. He was 27.
Police told CNN that Yelchin parked his car outside his home but was pinned by the vehicle when it slid down his driveway.
Yelchin appeared as Chekov in the new Star Trek franchise (the third instalment premieres Wednesday) and starred in quieter but equally remarkable films including Charlie Bartlett; New York, I Love You; Like Crazy and 2015’s critically acclaimed thriller Green Room.
Yelchin discussed that movie and working with Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Radio‘s Kyle Anderson.
“I have a blast, man,” he said. “I did basically Green Room, which was this character in a punk band from Virginia, then I did a film with my friend Gabe Klinger in Portugal, this experimental film where I played someone that went from 21 to 60, and then I went to do Star Trek. And so when I think about it, I’m like, ‘Man, this is kind of like a really heavy, heavy psychedelic trip.’ But it’s great, I feel so fortunate.”
