Jamie Foxx tells Howard Stern how he mentored Ed Sheeran
Love Ed Sheeran‘s folksy pop? Believe it or not, you have Jamie Foxx to thank.
The comedian/singer/actor gave the then-unknown Sheeran a place to crash and make music back in 2010, he said Tuesday on The Howard Stern Show.
“He sought me out,” Foxx said.
“He heard that the party place was your place, you have all the musicians there, lot of trendsetters,” Stern said of Foxx’s L.A. home.
“So I see him perform. I’m like, ‘Damn, you’re good at s**t.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m just starting my album.’ I said, ‘Well you can sleep right here on the couch in my studio.’ So he worked in the studio,” Foxx recalled. “My daughter’s like, ‘Dad, who’s in your house now?’ I said, ‘That dude right there’s gonna be something.’ She heard it and she said, ‘Oh my God, he’s amazing.’”
Soon after, Sheeran landed a major record deal … after Foxx truly put his talent to the test, bringing him out at a hip-hop concert.
Though the crowd seemed skeptical, “10 minutes [in], he got a standing ovation,” Foxx said. “They went crazy.”
