They’re healthy, and they’re making up for lost time with a rip-roaring start to the season, and tonight the red-hot Vegas Golden Knights bring their impressive high-wire act into Edmonton to face an Oilers team that is still looking for overall consistency in their game. And more reliable goaltending. Sound familiar?
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Penguins, who tonight face a host Blackhawks team that has overachieved to this point. Most observers, if not the ‘Hawks themselves, were ready for the franchise to rebuild/reset/retool. That will probably still be the case, but they’re shown early that they can take points from you on any given night.
Another team that overachieved in the early part of this season is the Flyers, who have received outstanding goaltending from Carter Hart. Tonight, Philly plays host to a Flames team that has spent the majority of the past month playing at home to so-so results. The Flames are expected to be in the race for first place in the Pacific Division once it’s all said and done.
They met in the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, and don’t be surprised if both teams met up again in the Big Dance in the next few years. The Kings and Rangers are in the playoff hunt early on this campaign, and most expect both clubs to be there come mid-April.
It’s been a heck of a start this season for the Canucks, who can’t seem to hold multi-goal leads. Yet they’re still not that far from the playoffs, though, let’s be honest… there are a ton of teams between them and daylight. The Avalanche are coming off a Stanley Cup Championship, and more than anybody understands that one doesn’t win the Cup in November. But points matter, especially with the league tightening up regarding the overall competition.
Happy American Thanksgiving!
Holiday afternoon hockey is always sweet, and today the Maple Leafs visit the Wild, who were expected to be sporting a better record almost a quarter of the way into the season. Toronto experienced a similar start but has seemingly straightened things out in recent weeks.
