Toronto and Baltimore battle it out in MLB action twice this week

Saturday, May 30th – 4:05 pm Eastern
Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles
It’s been a trying first two months of the 2026 season for the Toronto Blue Jays, who have had to contend with a large number of injuries to key players. As a result, the Jays aren’t contending- well, at least for first place in the AL West. Thank goodness for the Wildcard. Both the Blue Jays and Orioles have stayed close in the season-long marathon for one of the two American League wildcard spots. Toronto recently, too, two of three from the Miami Marlins. The Jays and O’s will meet up again later this week in Toronto.
Sunday, May 31st – 2:10 pm Eastern
Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox
It hasn’t been going all that well either for the Tigers, who could have traded blue-chip pitching ace Tarik Skubal by the time you read this. The lefthander has won the past two American League Cy Young Awards, given to the top pitcher in each circuit. Last season, Detroit rode that arm to an AL Wildcard spot, thanks to an 87-75 record. So far this season, the Tigers are struggling to reach the .400 mark. Tonight, they visit a White Sox team that is experiencing the opposite; last season, the Pale Hose went 60 and 102 (only the Colorado Rockies were worse, with 119 losses. Yes, you read that correctly). Two months into the 2026 campaign, the White Sox (who lost 121 games in 2024) are flirting with .500, and an American League wildcard invite is not out of the realm of possibility.
Monday, June 1st – 9:40 pm Eastern
New York Mets at Arizona Diamondbacks
It’s a brand-new month, and summer is just around the corner. And the New York Mets are already counting the days until Spring Training. The high-flying Mets (payroll-wise) are flying low in the National League East standings as we turn the page on the calendar, sitting in last place in the division, and looking waaaaay up at the National League wildcard spots. The D-Backs are in better shape, playing solid baseball in the NL West, trailing only the perennial powerhouses in that grouping, the Dodgers and Padres.
Tuesday, June 2nd – 7:15 pm Eastern
Toronto Blue Jays at Atlanta Braves
Memories from the autumn of 1982 will always bubble to the surface when the Jays and Braves meet up on the diamond. This time around, Atlanta is one of the powerhouses in all of baseball, while Toronto are trying to get their bats going, and get back into the AL East pennant race. Talk about a test! If the Blue Jays can take 2-of-3 from the Braves, it’ll speak volumes about the potential of this squad for the upcoming four months. The Braves continue to jockey with the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees for the best record in the Majors.
Wednesday, June 3rd – 6:40 pm Eastern
San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies
Yup, once again, the San Diego Padres are putting together a rather impressive regular season on the Pacific Coast. The only problem is, once again, those damn Dodgers are ahead of them. One of the great modern rivalries in all of baseball is playing out on the West Coast, as the Padres are keeping close to the defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. LA and SD are first and second in the NL West, and circle these dates on your calendar: June 26th, 27th and 28th. That’s when the two teams next meet up, this time in San Diego. The Dodgers took two of three from the Padres in the third week of May. The host team tonight, the Phillies, were in San Diego last week for a three-game set. Philadelphia has been playing .500 ball so far this season.
Thursday, June 4th – 8:10 pm Eastern
Pittsburgh Pirates at Houston Astros
On Monday, May 25th, three pitchers (Tatsuya Imai, Steven Okert, and Alimber Santa) combined to throw a no-hitter against the hometown Texas Rangers. It was the first no-hitter in the Majors since April 2024. The 9-0 Houston win gets the team a little closer to the .500 mark. Tonight, they face a visiting Pirates’ side that is playing just over .500 ball, but in the tough National League Central division, all that gets you is last place.
Friday, June 5th – 7:07 pm Eastern
Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays
After being in Baltimore last weekend for a series, these two American League East rivals meet up again, underneath the CN Tower. Suffice to say, it’s high time both these teams turn their seasons around. While first place in the AL East may be out of reach, the two wildcard spots are still up for grabs. Hopefully, the roof is open.
