In a remarkable turn of events, the NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend showcases a lineup featuring six teams that have made an extraordinary leap into the playoffs after missing the postseason the previous year. This season includes the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The achievement breaks a streak dating back to 1990, where at least four teams each season secured playoff berths after being absent the prior year. Notably, both the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans clinched their respective division titles this season after sitting out the playoffs in 2022, adding an extra layer of excitement to the postseason mix.
The AFC and NFC playoff seedings reflect an intriguing mix of seasoned contenders. The Baltimore Ravens secured the AFC North title for the first time since 2019 and the No. 1 seed in the conference, earning a first-round bye and home-field advantage. The NFC, on the other hand, sees the San Francisco 49ers as the top seed. They won the NFC West for the second-consecutive season and have a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
