On Valentine’s Day 1993, 17-year-old high school basketball and football star Allen Iverson was bowling in Hampton, Virginia, when an argument erupted into a brawl pitting Iverson’s African-American friends against a group of white patrons. The fallout from the fight and the subsequent trial landed Iverson a lengthy prison sentence and sharply divided the city along racial lines. Oscar nominee Steve James (Hoop Dreams) returns to his hometown of Hampton, where he once played basketball, to take a personal look at this still-disputed incident and examine its impact on Iverson and the whole community.

In 1983, the NC State Wolfpack, coached by Jim Valvano, stayed alive in the postseason by winning nine do-or-die games in a row -- seven of which they were losing in the final minute -- beating the likes of Michael Jordan and three-time National Player of the Year Ralph Sampson. The unlikely squad made it to the national championship game against No. 1 Houston, aka Phi Slama Jama, a team featuring future NBA Top 50 all-time players Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. NC State was one of the biggest underdogs ever in the final game, one that went down as possibly the best college basketball game in history-ending with one of the most well-known plays of all time. Told through the eyes of senior captain Dereck Whittenburg, the film takes a poignant look at Jim Valvano and his remarkable impact.

30 For 30: No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson On Valentine’s Day 1993, 17-year-old high school basketball and football star Allen Iverson was bowling in Hampton, Virginia, when an argument erupted into a brawl pitting Iverson’s African-American friends against a group of white patrons.

30 for 30 Survive and Advance In 1983, the NC State Wolfpack, coached by Jim Valvano, stayed alive in the postseason by winning nine do-or-die games in a row -- seven of which they were losing in the final minute -- beating the likes of Michael Jordan and three-time National Player of the Year Ralph Sampson.
